Thank you to our Partners making fall programs a huge success!

Each year, our numerous partners help us accomplish our goal of helping youth realize their dreams and reach their full potential, while providing healthy meals and a safe and positive environment. This summer, our partners are helping us offer new, exciting programs and provide our members new opportunities to explore their interests.

Summer Zoo Trips…

It was a beautiful day on Friday, June 27th when club members from our Pickard Club were accompanied by Volunteer Associate Board (VAB) members on a trip to the Lincoln Park Zoo. The kids were excited to see the lions, giraffes and gorillas and we had to pry them away from the hippo exhibit. A special thank you to our VAB members for taking their time with us. All of our clubs are also going to the Brookfield Zoo throughout the summer thanks to trustee Jerry Manne who is again generously supporting these trips.

The First Tee…

On Thursday, June 12th youth from the Union League Boys & GirlsClubs, Club One and Barreto Club competed in a golf and life skills challenge here at the ULC. The intra-club competition is the concluding event for both clubs eight week First Tee DRIVE program, where 80 youth were taught life-enhancing values and how to make healthy choices through the game of golf. Congrats to the winners from Club One! Special thank you to DJ, Lisa and Paul Shade and the Shade Family Foundation for making this program possible.

Brain Gain Program…

To combat summer learning loss, the Union League Boys & Girls Clubs are excited to participate and offer a Summer BGCA program called Brain Gain. Brain Gain is a summer learning loss prevention program designed to help kids stay on track for the coming school year. It is comprised of 17 exciting modules  in which youth engage in a process of learning through discovery, creative expression, group work and a final project or production. As a result they develop higher-order thinking skills and stay on level throughout the summer and into the new school year.

Staying Cool…

The Union League Boys & Girls Club members are participating in Learn-to-Swim classes this summer at the aquatic facilities at Clemente High School. This program teaches aquatic and safety skills in a logical progression. The program is based off a curriculum from the Red Cross called “Learn to Swim.” The objective is to teach members to swim and to be safe in, on and around the water. Special thank you to ULC member and USMS Swimmer, Phil Dodson for making this program possible once again.
