16 youths from our Barreto Club visited the Naval Station in Great Lakes, IL. They enjoyed a hands-on experience allowing them to check out base radio communications and the map and radar rooms. September Trustee Meeting…
The Union League Boys & Girls Clubs September Trustee meeting was both eventful and informative. We were proud to announce the receipt of a Gold Marketing and Communications award from the Boys & Girls Clubs of America in the Public Relations category for our Club One Grand Reopening. Mr. F. Michael Covey, President of the Union League Club was awarded a Chicago Cubs jersey as a special thank you from our RBI youth baseball players. Lisa Shade, representing the Shade Family Foundation, presented Board President Terry Hendrickson with a $15,000 check representing the proceeds of the 2nd Annual Shade Family Foundation Golf Outing.
Club Two members meet Tavis Smiley…
On September 12th, eight Club Two members along with their host ULBGC Trustee, Steve Schlegel enjoyed attending the Tavis Smiley Author’s Luncheon at the Union League Club of Chicago. The members chosen for this very special opportunity have demonstrated leadership to other club members and made the Wells High School Dean’s List at the end of the 2013-2014 school year. The Club members received a signed copy of Mr. Smiley’s book,”Death of a King.”
Associates Board Open House…
ULBGC Trustee Ken Such was “re-introduced” as the new chair of the Associates Board at an open house on September 23rd. Ken thanked Trustee Stacy Fleming for the six years she led the Associates Board and shared his vision for its future. By 2020, the Associates Board will become a (an):
• preferred opportunity for Chicago professionals to offer at-risk youth an active example of what it means to be a productive,
responsible and caring member of a community.
• effective networking forum for Chicago professionals sharing an interest in civic engagement.
• sustainable source of leadership for the Union League Boys & Girls Clubs.
• important source of programmatic funding through individual commitments and networking.
At the Open House, we were joined by the Directors of our Boys & Girls Clubs as well as other young professionals eager to become
more involved in our organization.
The Union League Boys & Girls Clubs in partnership with the Illinois Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs intend to submit an application for the FY15 21st Century Community Learning Centers Request for Proposals from the Illinois State Board of Education to operate said program at the following schools:

The Chicago Public School District is co-applicants on the applications related to these proposed programming sites.
