3×3 Basketball at Clemente…
On October 17, our Clemente Club held a 3×3 basketball tournament thanks to Trustee Cosmin Lucaci who helped coordinate. The event was a definite success, with over 100 Club Members showing up throughout the course of the night and 22 Club Members receiving trophies and/or gift cards. Our Clemente Cooks program grilled hotdogs and cheeseburgers for tournament participants and our staff did an amazing job managing the 16 team tournament spread across two gyms. Cosmin and his friends enjoyed friendly matchups with the youth and he said “We got along so well with all of the kids that we continued to have rematches.” Everyone had a great time and we look forward to hosting another tournament soon!
Wolves Hockey Game…
On Saturday, October 18th, over 100 of our Clubs Youth enjoyed a Wolves hockey game for the first time ever thanks to Donnell Woolford retired NFL professional, who donated the tickets. Union League Boys & Girls Clubs members honored Donnell for his support of Breast Cancer Awareness by exhibiting pink ribbons and flashing posters during the game. A special thank you to Mr. Woodford for his generous donation and continued support for the Union League Boys & Girls Clubs.
Ross Donates $2,000 to ULBGC…
Thank you to ROSS who generously donated to The Union League Boys & Girls Clubs to support the Power Hour program at our Clubs and for allowing us all to be a part of your new store opening on October 13th! A group of our youth from the Barreto Club attended the Grand Opening of a ROSS store downtown to be a part of the ribbon cutting ceremony and accept the donation on behalf of all of our youth.
Club Two holds Dove Self-Esteem Event…
72% of girls feel pressure to be beautiful. Dove believes everyone has the opportunity to make a difference in a girl’s self-esteem. Club Two hosted a self-esteem workshop for our youth girls on Friday, October 10th, which is part of the fifth annual Dove Self-Esteem Weekend, a nationwide effort to help girls develop a positive relationship with beauty. Club Two is utilized this event to reach out to young women affiliated with other organizations in the community, as a way to expose them to all that the Union League Boys & Girls Clubs has to offer. The workshops consisted of Dove material and Smart Girl material. We provided the girls with food, take home gifts and the Dove sponsored journals. Overall, the girls had a great time being surrounded by professional women who volunteered their time to discuss self-image and self-esteem and participating in our activities.
Race for the Kids…
70 of our Club youth were sponsored and joined by Trustee Jim Meyer at The University of Chicago Medicine Comer Children’s Hospital RBC Race for the Kids on Sunday, October 5th. Following the race, the youth were provided a lovely luncheon sponsored by RBC. A very special thank you to Jim Meyer for helping our youth be a part of this event.
