The Union League Boys & Girls Clubs is excited to announce our new Learn
to Swim Program. We have recently developed an agreement with our local park district (Humboldt Park,
located in walking distance of the Barreto Club) to use their pool facility exclusively each week during our
summer day camp program. The Union League Boys & Girls Club will hire certified lifeguards and water
safety instructors to oversee and implement the program.

The program offers two learn to swim sessions 5 days per week for 45 minutes each. The Beginner Learn to Swim session has a 1:6 instructor ratio. This program will encourage swimmers to become comfortable, confident and safe in the water. It will teach the fundamentals of water safety and promote an overall comfort in the water. The Fun and Learn to Swim session has a 1:10 instructor ratio. This program is open to all ages and skill levels. It will offer a fun, structured environment that fosters continued development of in-water skills and confidence. It will provide age appropriate, structured, in-pool activities and games.
Club member demographics at the Barreto site are: 58% Hispanic, 31% African American, 8% Multi Racial, 1% Asian, 1% Caucasian, 1% Native American, with 57% male and 43% female.
